our mission
In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2012, concerned citizens formed People for a Safer Society to help end the epidemic of gun violence in America.
Our grassroots, volunteer-powered organization works to educate communities on responsible gun ownership, advocate for common-sense gun legislation, and provide resources to support survivors and empower change makers.

Knowledge is Power
American children are more likely to die from gun violence than from ANY other cause.
Across the board, the statistics are staggering: A gun in the home makes the likelihood of homicide 3x higher; suicide 5x higher; and accidental firearm death 4x higher. These rates skyrocket exponentially for women and children from communities of color.
Whether you’re new to the cause or a seasoned advocate, we make it easy to stay current.

We’re Making a Difference
On the state level, we are proud of our work helping to pass the historic Protect Illinois Communities Act, recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.
On the federal level, we’re sprinting to preserve the Assault Weapons Ban, currently under attack in the U.S. Senate.
From legislation on safe storage, to red flag triggers, to universal background checks, Illinois is leading the charge to end gun violence. We’ll give you everything you need to drive impact.
